Just because these new guys will surpass us, it shouldn't diminish my squadmates' true value.

    Kuniharu Kakizaki, in Chapter 142.[1]

Kuniharu Kakizaki ((かき)(ざき) (くに)(はる), Kakizaki Kuniharu ?) is a B-rank All-Rounder and the captain of Kakizaki Squad. He is a former member of Arashiyama Squad.

    Appearance[edit | edit source]

Kakizaki is a light-skinned young man with ash blond[8] Ivy League hair and grey eyes. His uniform consists in a high-collared, zipped jacket in a bright persimmon color with matching headphones, a black undershirt, boots, and dark gray pants.[9][10]

    Personality[edit | edit source]

Kakizaki is quite friendly, as demonstrated when he guided Yūma Kuga to the solo rank war booths despite being his upcoming opponent.[11] This quality was also displayed when he good-naturedly comforted a disappointed Betsuyaku during the Away Mission Test temporary squad drawings,[12] or when he reached out to various agents thereafter.[13][14]

He has a reputation for being overly cautious in combat,[15] although Mitsuru Tokieda extols it as a virtue[16] since his squad was the only one to have no bailout during Aftokrator's Invasion[17] — arguing instead that Kakizaki has a tendency to shoulder all the responsibility himself.[18] In fact, he has low confidence in himself,[4] but high confidence in his teammates,[19] blaming himself for their low position in the ranking.[20] Since then, he has taken steps to encourage their growth.[14]

    Quotes[edit | edit source]

    • "This team isn't supposed to be hanging around in this position."[21]
    • (To Yūma Kuga) "Interesting... Show me what you've got, rookie!"[22]
    • (At the press conference) "We will do our best to protect the city and its citizens!"[23]
    • "My family or the people...?! How am I supposed to answer that...?!"[24]
    • "I never thought that I was a good soldier."[4]
    • "Fumika and Kotarō... and Madoka... I don't deserve such great squadmates."[20]
    • "The fact that such great agents are are still wandering between the middle and low level in B-rank is all because of me, a captain who can't bring out their true strength."[20]
    • "Just because these new guys will surpass us, it shouldn't diminish my squadmates' true value."[1]
    • (To Yūma Kuga) "You're definitely strong, but... Sorry. I have no intention of handing victory over to you."[25]

    Trivia[edit | edit source]

    • "Kuniharu" (国治 ?) means "country government", while "Kakizaki" (柿崎 ?) means "persimmon cape". Coincidentally, persimmon is the color of his Squad's jackets.[9]
    • He likes gyūdon, watermelon and all of sports.[7]
    • His dog is listed among his family members.[7]
    • He has a driver's license.[26]
    • The author described Kakizaki as a riajū (リア充), a pejorative term for someone who lives a happy and fulfilling life, and joked that he will live to the age of 92.[8]
      • Kakizaki's teammate Tomoe received the same epithet.[8]

    26. Daisuke Ashihara: Q: Is there anyone of 18 and above who has a driver’s license for a car or a bike? A: Aside from Reiji who has already driven in the story, it seems Fuyushima, Azuma, Suwa, Tsutsumi, Kako, and Kakizaki have normal driver’s licenses. The top brass and Sawamura have licenses too. Tachikawa doesn’t as you might expect. Zoe has a motorbike license, and Kage and Tōma have motorized bicycle licenses. It seems Arafune and Hokari want motorbike licenses too.
