Gimlet (徹甲弾, Gimuretto Lit. Armor-Piercing Bullet ?) is a composite bullet created through the combination of two Asteroids.[3]
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Gimlet projectiles are vaguely ellipsoidal in shape, with a short, luminous tail and thin circles surrounding them.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Since composite bullets were discovered by Kōhei Izumi,[4] Gimlet could not have existed until three years prior to Chika Amatori's and Yūma Kuga's enlistment in Border.[5]
Abilities[edit | edit source]
Gimlet doubles Asteroid's parameters, which grants it enhanced penetration abilities. It is used to breach sturdy shields or firm armor as well as to inflict damage.[6] Thanks to their extraordinarily high Trion levels, Izumi can fire Gimlet bullets so powerful that the arm of a Rabbit couldn't deflect it,[3] which was capable of deflecting an Ibis blast from Azuma despite his above-average trion.[7] While Ninomiya's Gimlet was about to destroy the combined shields of four Idras,[1] which is able to withstand multiple shots from Sniper Triggers,[8] respectively.
Gimlet can be utilized in trion cube form[3][1] or fired through a Gun Trigger.[9] In the latter case, the only known specific is that the firearm is set to shoot exclusively Gimlet;[9] in the former, the user conjures two Asteroid cubes, one from the Main and one from the Sub, and merges them into a single Gimlet cube.[3][1] The process lasts between one minute for inexperienced agents and two seconds for Shooters of Izumi's caliber,[10] during which the user is vulnerable to attack; for this reason, Gimlet cannot be used uniformly in this configuration.[11]

The only known users of this composite bullet are Kōhei Izumi[3] and Masataka Ninomiya.[1]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Like many other Gunner Triggers, Gimlet may be named after a missile: the SA-16 Gimlet, an early version of the 9K38 Igla. Alternatively, it may be derived from the homonymous rocket.
- A gimlet is also a drilling tool.
- Gimlet was described as doubling the "structure" of Asteroid,[6] the same term used by Jun Arashiyama to signify the combination of a Gunner Trigger's power, range and speed parameters.[12]

Daisuke Ashihara: Q: Is Ninomiya the one who created composite bullets? Is it Izumi? Or an Engineer?
A: Izumi tried it out on some kind of impulse and it worked. That is why he is called "genius-like" and "bullet idiot".

Daisuke Ashihara: Q: What abilities does the "Gimlet" that Izumi used in Volume 8 have?
A: By doubling the structure of the bullet, penetration power is increased; it is used to breach Shield or firm armor and cause damage.

Daisuke Ashihara: Q: Can Gunners use composite bullets?
A: If they set it in the gun trigger they can, but that gun then becomes "a gun that can only shoot the composite bullet".

Daisuke Ashihara: Q: Izumi synthesized a Tomahawk by combining a Viper and a Meteor. Can he do that because he's a genius or could Osamu do it too with practice?
A: It's possible to do it with practice, but it would take some time. If Osamu tried to shoot a Tomahawk now, it would take him a whole minute to prepare. It only takes Izumi two seconds.
