Kitazoe is a skilled and powerful Gunner, as befits a member of a former A-rank squad which maintains a high standing in B-rank[1] despite the lack of planning before Rank Wars.[2][3][4] Thanks to his high Trion levels, he is one of the few Gunners capable of scoring by themselves, boasting an impressive total of 9,728 usage points.[5] His proficiency at high-angle shooting[6] and exceptional range[7] allow him to bombard multiple opponents at the very start of a round,[8] although hit probability is low when he does not have a direct visual on the targets. They can also be used to spread chaos[7] and demolish possible hiding spots,[9] flushing out opponents for Masato Kageura to pick off.[10][7] Their synergy is enhanced by the latter's Side Effect preventing him from being hit by accident.[10] Kitazoe is fully capable of supporting his captain as they fight side by side,[11][5] providing cover fire and whittling down the enemy's defenses with his high firepower.[12][13] According to Sumiharu Inukai, his only weaknesses are his size, which makes him a big target, and his low mobility.[5]
Kitazoe gave proof of decent analytic abilities in his commentary of round six.[14][15][16][17] He is also proficient at multi-tasking, which he demonstrated by giving directions to Yuzuru Ema and Hikari Nire while assisting Kageura in combat.[18] He was praised for his ability to think on his feet,[19] such as when advising Ema to snipe at the fusebox[20] and then shooting at the light fixtures to counter Suzunari First's blackout strategy.[21] His quick thinking does not subside even in the face of defeat: when coming face to face with Masataka Ninomiya he used what he knew to be his last moments before bailing out to support Kageura,[22] while in round seven he made preparations to take out Yūma Kuga with an explosive round as soon as he suffered a lethal blow,[23] a tactic which was also meant to create an escape route for Kageura.[24] These and other instances[25][26] are a testament to his ability to assess his odds against a particular opponent without letting his ego pollute his judgment.
Kitazoe is one of the strongest individual in Border outside of a Trion Body.[27] Furthermore, he is a good runner and a capable dancer.[28]
Triggers[edit | edit source]

Type Normal | Meteor | |

Classification Gunner |
Under normal conditions, Kitazoe's most used offensive Trigger is Meteor, which he fires through either one[9] or two[29] grenade launchers, depending on whether he must activate Bagworm for stealth. Despite being a Gunner, his specialty is in long range shooting.[7] so far he has never used meteor excluding use of his signature technique.
High-Angle Bombardment (曲射 砲撃, Kyokusha Hōgeki ?): By shooting multiple Meteor rounds through one or more grenade launchers, Kitazoe can fire at all the enemies visible on Radar in quick succession,[30] demolish large portions of the map, and wreak havoc on the battlefield[31] additionally he can use this technique to lure opponents into a melee, Kageura can either join the battle, or fight those who escape.[10] Despite its power and range, the technique has low accuracy, especially without visual on the target.[9] Kitazoe often requires Hikari Nire's help to find a suitable firing spot.[9] He is first shown using this technique in Chapter 111 (Episode 68 in the anime). |
Type Normal | Asteroid | |

Classification Gunner |
Kitazoe fires Asteroid through an assault rifle[7] which appears bulkier than the other models,[32] but which might boast an even higher rate of fire than most.[33] It appears to be his Trigger of choice for mid-ranged shootouts[34][35][36] as well as when the environment or the presence of Snipers discourage the use of Meteor.[19] He was able to outgun Tatsuya Kuruma[37][12] before the latter turned the tables by switching to Full Attack.[38] In locations which prevent the use of his High-Angle Bombardment, Kitazoe conjures his assault rifle at the very start of the match[32] and maintains it in existence even when not actively using it.[26] He normally wields it with both hands,[26][33][12][36] although he can switch to only one in a pinch.[39] Kitazoe is first seen using Asteroid in Chapter 167 (Episode 88 in the anime). |
Type Normal | Shield | |
---|---|---|
Classification Defense |
Kitazoe summons his Shield to protect himself while engaging other ranged fighters, casting it in its default hexagonal shape and regular size, which is large enough to guard his upper body and part of his head.[33][12] Since he supports his assault rifle with his right shoulder, that side of his body is more exposed to enemy fire, although he can fully retreat behind his Shield if needed.[40] He can also cast it remotely to protect his allies.[11] Kitazoe is first seen using Shield in Chapter 167 (Episode 88 in the anime). |
Type Normal | Bagworm | |
---|---|---|
Classification Optional |
A Trigger that prevents the user's trion signature from being detected by Radar, therefore concealing their position. Kitazoe seems to rarely activate it, as he did not use it even when chased by Ninomiya,[4][41] but only to relocate to a suitable shooting position after the Shooter stopped chasing him.[42] He is first seen using Bagworm in Chapter 114 (Episode 69 in the anime). |
