Suzunari First[edit | edit source]
Kō Murakami[edit | edit source]
Kuruma inspires[1] and supports Murakami.[2] About eight months before Suzunari First's match against Nasu Squad and Tamakoma Second, Kuruma did not hesitate to cycle in the rain to meet with Arafune in hopes of alleviating Murakami's slump.[3] His actions and words caused Murakami to see his Side Effect in a new, positive light.[2] Despite being overwhelmingly more powerful than his captain, Murakami deeply respects Kuruma.[4] In combat he will prioritize Kuruma's safety over his own regardless of strategic advantage.[5] Kuruma addresses Murakami by his first name without appending an honorific,[1] whereas the Attacker uses his captain's surname followed by -senpai,[6] and in general speaks to him with deference;[7][1] nonetheless, the two are friends and hang out with their other teammates in their free time.[8]
Taichi Betsuyaku[edit | edit source]
Betsuyaku deeply respects Kuruma,[9] who in turn looks after his very clumsy teammate and routinely forgives him for the accidental havoc he wreaks, including the destruction of his beloved aquarium of tropical fish. It was Kuruma's patience in the face of the loss that earned him Batsuyaku's enduring loyalty.[10] He gifted the Sniper his hat as protection, taking the idea from Yōtarō Rindō's helmet, a thought which Betsuyaku greatly appreciated.[11] Like Murakami, Betsuyaku will not hesitate to put himself at risk to ensure Kuruma's safety no matter the circumstances.[5] The three and Kon hang out together in their free time.[8] Betsuyaku addresses Kuruma by his surname followed by the honorific -senpai,[12] while Kuruma uses the Sniper's first name, without honorifics.[13]
Yuka Kon[edit | edit source]
Kon hangs out with her teammates in her free time, suggesting they are on friendly terms.[8] Kuruma often has to calm the Operator down when Betsuyaku's shenanigans frustrate her. He addresses her by her surname followed by the diminutive suffix -chan.[12]
Kuruma's Squad 5[edit | edit source]
Takuma Yuba[edit | edit source]
the only known about the relation these two had before being on squad 5 is that they were "junior and senior in highschool"[14] but it's likely they've met through team rank wars or while talking with other gunners. Kuruma considers Yuba and everyone else to be "positive folks with stamina to burn". Yuba is quick to take the role of second in command, to no contestation, and picks up on any slack Kuruma gives. Kuruma gives "special treatment" to Yuba due to having difficulties with the Battle Sim software, asking for and being given the special assignment to shed his responsibilities, but Kuruma believes it was the right course of action regardless. Kazuma believes their personalities would react in a way similar to a carrot and stick.
Others[edit | edit source]
Hiro Kitazoe[edit | edit source]
Kuruma is known to have been a positive influence on Kitazoe, having contributed to making him more empathetic and respectful.[15] Kuruma refers to Kitazoe by his nickname followed by the honorific -kun.[16]
Tetsuji Arafune[edit | edit source]
Eight months prior to Suzunari First's first match against Tamakoma Second, Kuruma already knew Arafune well enough to know that he would not change classes out of frustration. Arafune's agreeing to meet with him seemingly without knowing the reason first might also suggest that they had a pre-existing relationship.[3] However, Kuruma was unaware of the former Attacker's ambition to develop a master theory to mass-produce Perfect All-Rounders, which greatly impressed him.[17] Kuruma refers to Arafune by his surname followed by the honorific -kun.[18]
Nozomi Kako[edit | edit source]
Kako and Kuruma are the same age.[19][20] They seem to be friends, since Kuruma has tasted her fried rice on multiple occasions.[21]
Hisato Sasamori[edit | edit source]
Kuruma and Sasamori are probably on good terms with each other, since the former addresses the latter by his first name, appending the honorific -kun.[22]
Yūma Kuga[edit | edit source]
Kuruma was very impressed with Yūma's score against Murakami after their first ten-round match, especially in relation to his young age.[23] He immediately agreed with the Attacker that the ace of Tamakoma Second would be a big enough threat to require the power of the whole unit to suppress safely.[24]
Tamakoma First[edit | edit source]
Kuruma is awed by the power of Tamakoma Triggers, which translates to admiration for their users.[25] Since the building of Suzunari Branch is close to that of Tamakoma Branch, Suzunari First and Tamakoma Second do joint defense duty on occasion.[26]
