The connections between Yuba and other characters in the series.
Yuba Squad[edit source]
Yukari Obishima[edit source]
Obishima is the All-Rounder and melee combatant of Yuba Squad. Yuba can be rather stern towards her education and training within Border, often quizzing her during and outside rank wars whenever he deems it a teachable moment. His stern nature isn't a front but his way of expressing care for Obishima's wellbeing as seen when he comforts her after their loss in Round 8. He's quick to defend her dignity when Yuma misidentifies her as another boy, using it as leverage to have Yuma spar with her as she had wanted. Given the way he treats her it can be presumed he has high expectations of her future prospects within Border.
Kazuto Tonooka[edit source]
Yuba is aware of Tonooka's capabilities and often makes use of them by designating singular targets for the stealth ops specialist to target and remove from the battlefield. As his captain Yuba gives Tonooka orders during battles and believes he can "get it done"[1] with high frequency, even if at moments stress causes Yuba to encourage him into finishing the job quicker[2]
Nono Fujimaru[edit source]
Nono has been in Yuba's company long enough to have banter with both him and Kanda, knowing how both would react to the decreasing rank and perfectly mimicking the latter's face and tone to encourage her squadmates. When not helping Obishima or Tonooka she usually uses her radar to direct Yuba towards incoming enemies and exclaim his distance from the target he's pursuing, allowing him to quickdraw immediately upon entering his pistols range.
Kazuaki Ōji (Former)[edit source]
Oji was the former Attacker of Yuba squad but decided he wanted to leave and start his own squad, bringing Kurauchi with him. He is still on good terms with Yuba and his ex-squadmates, talking highly of them and joining them for a celebratory meal after the season ended
Kazuki Kurauchi (Former)[edit source]
Kurauchi was presumably the former Shooter of Yuba squad but decided he wanted to leave and join a new squad with Oji. He is still on good terms with Yuba and his ex-squadmates, talking highly of them and joining them for a celebratory meal after the season ended
Kuruma's Squad 5[edit source]
Tatsuya Kuruma[edit source]
the only known about the relation these two had before being on squad 5 is that they were "junior and senior in highschool"[3] but it's likely they've met through team rank wars or while talking with other gunners. He considers Yuba and everyone else to be "positive folks with stamina to burn". Yuba is quick to take the role of second in command, to no contestation, and picks up on any slack Kuruma gives. He feels guilty and inadequate after being given "special treatment" by his captain due to having difficulties with the Battle Sim software, asking for and being given the special assignment to shed his responsibilities, but Kuruma believes it was the right course of action regardless. Kazuma believes their personalities would react in a way similar to a carrot and stick.
Noboru Koarai[edit source]
Koarai and Yuba have probably met in team rank wars a few times. A bonding moment between the two is shown after the first special assignment and battle sim: Yuba requested to exit for the special assignment, hiding that he felt behind and inadequate at using the software. He is found later that night working harder to understanding it, Koarai enters to check up on him and help to relieve his nerves and assist in getting used to the software.
Rui Osano[edit source]
Osano's easy going and laidback personality acts as the antithesis of Yuba's stern and serious one, yet they get along rather well. Her initial idea behind the team mixing was given quizzical response until Yuba deciphered the intention behind her unserious words and made it into a coherent and gradable response, grinning at each other the entire time.
Atsushi Hokari[edit source]
Hokari and Yuba may have met during team rank wars. They were both chosen by Kuruma for their high stamina.
19-year-old Characters[edit source]
Yūichi Jin[edit source]
Jin can be a troublemaker in their friend group, with Ikoma he can convince Arashiyama to loosed up to the point of needing to be reined in by Kakizaki and Yuba.
Kuniharu Kakizaki[edit source]
Yuba and Kakizaki are the most level headed members of their friend group, never losing their stricter composure in the presence of Ikoma or Arashiyama. When Zaki needs help most, Yuba is the one to be there for him.
Jun Arashiyama[edit source]
They hang around the same group of friends, being the same age of 19. Arashiyama is usually level headed but in the presence of Kakizaki and Ikoma he will tend to become a bumbling idoit, causing Yuba to have to rein them in and prevent Zaki's death-by-gag-exhaustion.
Tatsuhito Ikoma[edit source]
Hanging around the same group of friends, being the same age of 19. Ikoma can be fool-hearty and problematic, dragging Arashiyama and Jin into jokes too. Yuba often has to rein them in and prevent Zaki's death-by-gag-exhaustion.
Others[edit source]
Kazuma Satomi[edit source]
Kazuma looks up to Yuba highly, describing his own abilities to emulate Ninomya's style with Yuba's techniques. Yuba has given advice to help Kazuma raise his rank as shown in Konami calling him "Yuba's disciple".[4] their skills can be assumed to be similar given their close rankings, being No.1 & 2 gunners. Kazuma notes that Yuba has the possibility to beat anyone in a head on duel.
Yūma Kuga[edit source]
Yuba respects Kuga's skills and creativity during fights. While being the victor of their duel, in which his position was advantageous for, Yuba comments after that he is "not a guy you wanna find yourself up against for real". Yuma's punctuality and modesty towards Obishima garners further respect from Yuba, believing the head to knee bow to be exemplary. Yuba can be found becoming serious at the idea of fighting Yuma as shown when he equips his revolvers and after Yuma claims Yuba won't win the next fight.
Kirie Konami[edit source]
Konami refers to Yuba with the suffix "-Chan", the implication being a feeling of endearment or some sort of teasing. Other than this we see very little interactions between the two.[4]
