“ | If you can make your opponent think that there are traps, you can disable a large part of their ability to make judgement. | ” |
–Isami Tōma quoting Shinji Fuyushima, in Chapter 155.[1] |
Shinji Fuyushima (冬島 慎次, Fuyushima Shinji ?) is an A-Rank Trapper and the captain of Fuyushima Squad.[4]
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Shinji is a man with long, slicked-back hair, styled in a short ponytail under his head. He has facial hair in the form sideburns on the sides of his face and a goatee on his chin.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Fuyushima is counted as a free spirit[3], spending his free time playing mahjong in Suwa Squad's Strategy Room.[3] However, despite not being able to participate in solo rank wars, he still spends time gathering information or doing research.[3] He gets seasick from travelling on the Away Ship, severe enough he excludes himself from active duty.[6][3] It has been stated he can't say no to a high school girl.[5] Possibly due to being older than most agents, he occasionally gets referred to as an "old man".[7]
During combat he’s shown prowess at analysing how foreign triggers function, quickly figuring out weaknesses to be exploited: Galopoula's tunneling has a limited range that meant a passage from outside HQ was impossible; he suggested that Border can intercept them at specific points inside due to this. Fuyushima also seems to be quick at acting out orders, shown when Tōma wanted a short warp on HQ's roof[8] or when Shinoda ordered the bulkheads be closed.[9] It would seem he isn't proficient at grasping the bigger picture or utilising agents for uses outside what he considers their niche. This is best displayed when he couldn’t consider alternative motives for Galopoula's Invasion[10] or using Amō for his Side Effect rather than his Black Trigger.[11]
Relationships[edit | edit source]
