An Impertinent Rookie ((ナマ)()()新人(ルーキー) Namaikina Rūkī ?) is Episode 41 of the World Trigger Anime.

    Short Summary[edit | edit source]

After a hard battle, Tamakoma Second defeats Arafune Squad and Suwa Squad and advances to B-rank 8.

    Long Summary[edit | edit source]

Yūma and Midorikawa have a rank war against each other, and the latter takes the former by surprise by using Grasshopper. Later, Yūma asks about Grasshopper, and it seems that he has been practicing with it for Round 2.

Presently, Tsutsumi bails out. Taketomi explains the function of Grasshopper, and Midorikawa admits to helping him learn it. Kuroe gets mad at him for helping the enemy, but Kodera and Yoneya think otherwise. Tsutsumi scolds himself for his blunder, but Osano is happy with him getting one point. Hokari is targeted next. The sniper shoots at Yūma but he blocks the shot flawlessly.

Suddenly, a Kogetsu-wielding Arafune appears. Azuma reveals that he used to be an attacker. Taking this as a signal, Suwa tells Sasamori to take down Hokari. Arafune says he will destroy Yūma. Taking a brief break, Taketomi runs down the scores of the match so far. It's ironic how Arafune Squad is doing so poorly on a map made for snipers. Taketomi then says that Arafune was already a sniper by the time she was promoted, to which Midorikawa says that he was ranked high for an attacker and people were wondering why he switch. Arafune uses his Bagworm as a blinder but Yūma doesn't get hit. Hokari shoots at Yūma again, damaging his Scorpion blades.

Kagami warns the remaining two that Suwa Squad has disappeared. Through process of elimination, Hokari realizes that Sasamori is coming after him. Arafune is on guard for Suwa's attack. Yūma lands a hit on Arafune. Azuma notes that Osamu is applying mental pressure on the two members of Arafune Squad by merely standing there, ready to attack. Hokari taunts Sasamori, but the younger is unfazed. Hokari sacrifices himself by blowing Yūma's arm off, receiving a lethal blow from Sasamori and bailing out. Arafune is distracted by Yūma's Grasshopper and loses both of his legs, and then Suwa starts shooting at Yūma. Sasamori activates Chameleon and disappears, grabbing Yūma from behind.

Sasamori is stabbed with Yūma's Scorpion, and Suwa moves to shoot Yūma but is beaten by Chika who blows up the landscape. Yūma uses the flying debris to his advantage and takes out Sasamori. Arafune takes the opportunity to shoot Chika, and she bails out.

Suwa shoots at Yūma who advances closer. Azuma says that this is Tamakoma Second's victory.

As Suwa is shooting at Yūma, Osamu swoops in and takes the kill. Yūma was just the bait. Suwa and Arafune bail out, officially giving the win to Tamakoma Second. They climb up the ranks to the No. 8 spot, at the top of the middle group.

Differences Between the Anime and Manga[edit | edit source]

    • In the manga, Sakurako makes no comment about Osamu after Azuma points out he positioned himself in a strategic position, and Tokieda and Arashiyama don't say anything after Kitora says it was just a coincidence.
    • In the manga, when Azuma says the match is over, Osamu is seen before Azuma says Tamakoma won, and then shoots Suwa, while in the anime, Azuma says Tamakoma won before Osamu is seen.
    • In the manga, Osamu, Chika, and Yūma don't fist bump.
    • In the anime, when Tokieda says Tamakoma Second is strong, Kitora looks away while sighing. In the manga, her reaction isn't seen, as she's off-panel.
    • In the anime, Sakurako doesn't ask Azuma for his opinion on the battle, instead just informing the spectators about the updated ranking. Azuma's opinion and Kodera's explanation about Tamakoma Second's strategy are adapted in the next episode instead, as is the announcement of Tamakoma Second's next match.
