    Attackers like to, well, attack.

Shiori Usami about Attackers, in Kei Tachikawa.[1]

An Attacker (攻撃手(アタッカー), Atakkā Lit. Attack User ?) is a Border agent who specializes in the use of Attacker Triggers.

    Specifics

The Attacker position is one of the 9 official positions available to Border agents, one of the 7 directly involved in combat, and one of the 4 a trainee can seemingly be.[2] Any combatant who have scored the most points with a Attacker Trigger out of all the Triggers in their set are counted as Attackers[3], however if they have 6,000 points with a attacker trigger and any Gunner Trigger, they are classified as All-Rounders.[4]

    Overview

Attackers specialize in melee combat and fight almost exclusively at close quarters,[5] although each of the 3 basic Attacker Triggers enables them to execute mid-ranged attacks in certain conditions, often with the help of additional Triggers.[6][7][8] As their name implies, Attackers are the most offensively-oriented fighters. Their Triggers grant them excellent raw power,[9] being surpassed in destructive abilities only by Ibis,[10] as well as the highest damage-per-second ratio. Furthermore, Attacker Triggers are the ones consuming the least Trion,[9] which means that a high trion capacity is of secondary importance to Attackers, and in fact many of them have relatively low trion levels.[11]

Due to the characteristics of their Triggers, Attackers often serve as the main damage dealers of their Squad, fighting at the front of their formation. When this is not the case, their considerable offensive power can be used to break through the enemy's defenses;[12] otherwise, they can serve as decoys[5] or defend themselves and their teammates with Shield while moving into a more favorable range.[13] This Defense Trigger is in fact essential to them, as it allows them to approach foes who specialize in mid-range without risks.[14] Others prefer to use Grasshopper to close the distance or Gunner Triggers to hold their own from afar.[15] For similar reasons, Border's most agile fighters are all Attackers.[11] The three basic Attacker Triggers are Kogetsu, Raygust and Scorpion.[16] Sōgetsu[17] and the Spear[18] are also used by Kirie Konami and Yōsuke Yoneya respectively.

    Solo Points

Since points fluctuate constantly, most of the following scores are likely to be obsolete.

    List of Attackers

Currently, there are 29 known Attackers in Border,[11] roughly corresponding to the Attackers who participate in Rank Wars. Tetsuji Arafune,[38] Kyōko Sawamura[39] and Raizō Terashima[40] previously held this position as well. Among the All-Rounders, Yōko Katori is known to have started out as an Attacker.[41] Masafumi Shinoda utilizes an Attacker Trigger,[42] but it is unknown if he is classified as an Attacker.

The following attackers are listed by their squad's ranking at the end of the most recent season of rank wars, with the exceptions of Konami and Jin, who do not belong to a ranked squad. When known, their individual ranking in the Attacker class is reported under their name.

    Trivia

    • Due to Kyōsuke Karasuma's statement, it is safe to assume that Yukimaru Ichijō is either the no. 5 or the no. 7 Attacker,[43] and that he has more than 10,000 points with Raygust.[28]
    • Yūichi Jin formerly held the position of no. 2 Attacker.[44]
    • When Osamu Mikumo joined Border as a trainee, his Trigger of choice was Raygust, however when he was promoted to B-rank, he was immediately categorized as a Shooter for unknown reasons.[45]

    3. Daisuke Ashihara: Q: Kako-san doesn’t have a Gunner trigger on her main trigger side, so why is she a Shooter?
A: This comes from BBF. Thank you for reading. The positions are based on the equipped trigger with the most solo points (except All-rounders). Kako-san’s Hound (custom) that she equips in her sub has the highest solo points, and the Scorpion she equips in her main hasn’t reached 6,000 points yet, so she’s a Shooter. It looks like she wants to increase her Scorpion to over 6,000 points and become an All-rounder. In the Galopoula battle, it seems she equipped Hound (custom) in her main too in preparation for a firefight.

    4. Daisuke Ashihara: Q: How is an All-Rounder defined?
A: An All-Rounder is ‘an agent who has earned more than 6,000 solo points in both Attacker and Gunner Triggers respectively’.

    40. Daisuke Ashihara: Q: Please tell us when Raygust was developed as well as the story behind its development.
A: Raizō Terashima (18), a top class Kogetsu wielder at the time, got pissed off at the enhancing and popularity of bullet triggers and transferred to Engineer, where he made Raygust as an anti-bullet trigger blade with Shield and Scorpion as the base. This was when Terashima gained weight.
