Izumi is an exceptionally talented and powerful Shooter to the point he holds the position of No. 2 Shooter.[1] Masataka Ninomiya despite already being the No 1. Shooter[2], begged Izumi to mentor him to improve his technique.[3][2] Izumi is considered one of Border's best supporters (along side Shinnosuke Tsuji, and Mitsuru Tokieda).[4][5], with one of his notable strengths is being able to corner enemies, and then let his teammates snag a point.[6] After fighting with Izumi, Hyrein, admiring his prowess, wished to capture him to make him one of his underlings.[7] His strength consists in a combination of great firepower, owed to his high level of trion, and the flexibility granted by his mastery over all types of bullets[8] in addition, he is masterclass with all 4 bullet triggers[9] with Asteroid, and Viper having more than 10,000.[9] Izumi is also noted to be able to produce composite bullets, of which he is the inventor,[10] in a mere two seconds.[11] Another of his strong points is his adaptable way of thinking.[8] His innate perceptiveness allows him to see through the opponent's fighting style and to prepare countermeasures.[8] It also improves his ability as a coach.[8]
Triggers[edit | edit source]
Kōhei Izumi's Triggers |
---|
Current |
---|
Type Normal | Asteroid | |
---|---|---|
Classification Shooter |
Izumi has 10,000 points with this trigger[9] thus he is a skilled user. Izumi usually fights using Asteroid in Full Attack.[12][13][14] Thanks to his massive amount of Trion[15][8], he can choose hit probability through sheer numbers over accuracy[16] by splitting his trion cubes several times.[16] His firepower remains such that Ai Kitora was convinced her Shield would not be able to resist one of his barrages.[17] Izumi first uses Asteroid in Chapter 26 (Episode 14 in the Anime). |
Type Normal | Viper | |
---|---|---|
Classification Shooter |
Izumi is one of the only three Border agents who creates new paths for Viper every time they use it, the others being the specialist Rei Nasu[18] and rookie Hyuse.[19] Additionally he has 10,000 points with this trigger.[9] He has used this skill to make his bullets fly complicated routes so as to prevent the opponent from figuring out where they will hit[20] and to attack without disclosing his location by altering their paths out of sight.[21] |
Type Normal | Hound | |
---|---|---|
Classification Shooter |
Izumi has obtained Master Class with this trigger.[9] Exploiting Hound's ability to home in on the target, Izumi can use it for pincer attacks with another Gunner Trigger, performing an inescapable multi-directional attack or striking from the target's blind spot. He was able to shoot down all the Alektor bullets that Hyrein aimed at him, a superhuman feat[8] that earned him his opponent's praise. |
Type Normal | Meteor | |
---|---|---|
Classification Shooter |
Izumi is masterclass with this trigger.[9] Thanks to Izumi's abundant Trion, his Meteor is particularly powerful, being able to cause widespread destruction[22], depriving the enemy of hiding spots and clearing lines of fire for ally Snipers.[23] By scattering the bullets and firing each at a different angle, he can increase greatly the area of the ensuing explosions.[22] Izumi first uses Meteor in Chapter 30 (Episode 15 in the Anime). |
Type Normal | Tomahawk | |
---|---|---|
Classification Shooter (Composite) |
Izumi is able to create Tomahawk in only 2 seconds.[11] By exploiting its ability to travel along preset routes, like Viper, Izumi can bombard the enemy without giving away his exact position by curving the trajectory of the bullets.[24] Thanks to the radius of the blasts, they can be effective in combat without direct lines of sight,[25] just by guessing the general location of the opponent.[26] He first used Tomahawk in Chapter 59 (Episode 27 in the anime). |
Type Normal | Gimlet | |
---|---|---|
Classification Shooter (Composite) |
Izumi is able to create Gimlet in only 2 seconds.[11] His Gimlet bullets are so powerful that the arm of a Rabbit couldn't deflect it,[27] which was capable of deflecting an Ibis blast from Azuma despite his above-average trion.[28] Izumi first used Gimlet in Chapter 68 (Episode 30 in the anime). |
Type Normal | Shield | |
---|---|---|
Classification Defense |
Izumi can create the Shield at the precise area of attack. Thanks to his high Trion, it is very durable, withstanding for a short time the combined firepower of Arashiyama and Tokieda. He is able to use Full Guard strategically, pretending to be in Full Attack and luring a Sniper into shooting, causing them to reveal their position while being fully protected. With Full Guard, he can stop Chelidon's destructive beams.[29] |
Type Normal | Bagworm | |
---|---|---|
Classification Optional |
An Optional Trigger that prevents the user's position from appearing on the Radar. |
Type Normal | Radar | |
---|---|---|
Classification Standard |
A default Trigger that shows the position of any Trion body within range. Like Bail Out, it does not occupy a Trigger slot and is a standard piece of equipment of all Border agents. |

Daisuke Ashihara: Q: Is Ninomiya the one who created composite bullets? Is it Izumi? Or an Engineer?
A: Izumi tried it out on some kind of impulse and it worked. That is why he is called "genius-like" and "bullet idiot".

Daisuke Ashihara: Q: Izumi synthesized a Tomahawk by combining a Viper and a Meteor. Can he do that because he's a genius or could Osamu do it too with practice?
A: It's possible to do it with practice, but it would take some time. If Osamu tried to shoot a Tomahawk now, it would take him a whole minute to prepare. It only takes Izumi two seconds.
