Katori is endowed with an astounding talent that allows her to be proficient at anything she attempts with very little effort on her part. As a child her grades surpassed those of the hard-working Hana Somei in all subjects,[1] although she was later overtaken.[2] She also excels at videogames despite not playing them the optimal way, but rather relying on sheer skill to overcome all challenges.[3] Her natural proficieny extends to combat ability, with Katori reaching Master Class with at least one Gunner Trigger in six months with hardly any effort.[4] Her ability to use Osamu's Spider wires to her advantage on her first attempt left a profound impression on Kōhei Izumi, who would have deemed it impossible had he not witnessed it.[5] On the other hand, she struggles to apply herself and go further than her innate talent alone takes her.[6]

Katori defeats Osamu after using his red wire.

As an All-Rounder, Katori has a flexible fighting style that makes her effective at both short and mid-range, with the option of comfortably using Attacker Triggers and firearms at the same time. She can in fact often be seen wielding one Scorpion and one handgun, engaging the opponent at close quarters when possible. She is adept at switching Triggers as needed, which she demonstrated in her airborne clash with Yūma Kuga. Neither fighter was able to gain the upper hand in their confrontation[7][8] despite Yūma boasting the skill to outmatch the no. 4 Attacker before the latter's Side Effect reversed the trend.[9] Nonetheless, she was deemed average by Koskero by comparison with Yōsuke Yoneya.[10] During her scuffle with Yūma, Katori also proved to possess remarkable peripheral vision and multi-tasking ability by intercepting Osamu's Attacks,[11][12] as well as above-average mobility. She is in fact nimble enough to incapacitate a Marmod while performing acrobatic maneuvers,[13] dodge Chika Amatori's Lead Bullet sniping[14] and use wires to enhance her agility without any previous training.[15]

Despite being the captain of her squad, Katori barely strategized before or during the match against Kakizaki Squad and Tamakoma Second,[16][17][18] suggesting a solid course of action only twice.[19][20] It is unclear if she ordinarily is more involved in planning, although by her own admission she does not excel at it.[6] If her arrogance and impulsivity put her in jeopardy at the very start of the rank war,[21] she was later able to employ the perception of her as reckless to her own advantage.[22] Throughout the match she proved herself reliable when taking split-moment decisions,[23][24][25] although not even she is always exempt from hesitation.[26] She is moderately observant, immediately figuring out the function of Osamu's red wires[27] despite failing to see through the further layers of his technique.[28]

    Triggers[edit source]

    Yōko Katori's Triggers
    Current
    Type Normal Scorpion

    Classification Attacker

Katori can use Scorpion both offensively[13][29] and defensively, being skilled enough to intercept Yūma's slashes with it by making it extend out of her arms.[30][31] She exhibits a marked preference for causing it to jut out of the side of her forearm[32][33][34][31] as opposed to wielding it.[24] She has also used it to prop herself up[35] following the loss of two limbs,[25][26] and possibly also to stop the subsequent Trion leak. Unlike some Scorpion users, she prefers to use only one at a time despite having two in her Trigger Set, the only exception being her attempt to intercept Yūma's Mantis.[36] Katori may or may not have reached Master Class with this Trigger.[37] She is first seen using it in Chapter 123 (Episode 74 in the anime).
    Type Normal Asteroid

    Classification Gunner

Katori resorts to this Trigger when exchanging fire from mid-range, when closing in is not an option,[38][39][40] but she may also resort to it at close quarters, rapidly drawing her handgun and shooting the opponent at point-blank range.[30] She may or may not have reached Master Class with this Trigger.[37] Katori is first seen using Asteroid in Chapter 138, although in the anime she was shown using it in Episode 74.
    Type Normal Grasshopper

    Classification Optional

Katori is skilled enough with this Trigger to keep up with Yūma, another exceptional user, and fight him in mid-air[41] without losing altitude for a relatively long duration. She can propel herself by placing her palm on a platform instead of her foot, saving time on lateral movement.[12] Katori is first seen using Grasshopper in Chapter 138 (Episode 78 in the anime).
    Type Normal Bagworm

    Classification Optional

A Trigger that prevents the user's trion signature from being detected by Radar, therefore concealing their position. Katori is first seen using Bagworm in Chapter 140 (Episode 79 in the anime).
    Type Normal Spider

    Classification Optional

Katori equipped Spider at Rokurō Wakamura's request before round eight of the latest season of rank wars. She can create at least six cubes at the same time.[42] Presumably she removed Hound from her set to make room. Katori is first seen using Spider in Chapter 197.
    Type Normal Shield

    Classification Defense

Katori appears to have a preference for casting round Shields large enough to protect her torso, calves and part of her head when in an upright position.[11][12] When engaging the opponent from mid-range she may decrease its surface area and create an opening in it so as to discharge her handgun through it while protecting her upper-body.[38][43] Katori is first seen using Shield in Chapter 138 (Episode 78 in the anime).
    Former
    Type Normal Hound

    Classification Gunner

Katori is capable of unleashing a barrage of homing bullets while rapidly switching targets. In the match against Tamakoma Second she was able to target Yūma and Osamu[44] while surreptitiously cutting down the latter's hardly visible wires.[22] Presumably she removed this trigger to make room for Spider. Katori is first seen using Hound in Chapter 145 (Episode 80 in the anime).
