    Background[edit source]

Ninomiya joined Border approximately three years before Chika Amatori and Yūma Kuga.[1] Shinoda tossed him along with Kako, and Miwa into Azuma Squad.[2][3] After leaving, he would form Ninomiya Squad, rising to A-rank and at one point passing the selection for the Away Team; however, Mirai Hatohara's inability to shoot others caused first her, then the whole squad to be removed from the mission.[4] On May 1,[5] the team dined together at a barbecue restaurant to celebrate Sumiharu Inukai's birthday; shortly afterwards, Hatohara ventured into the Neighborhood with her accomplices,[6] causing Ninomiya Squad to be demoted to B-rank as punishment[7], additionally they couldn't advance during previous June-August, and October-December seasons.[8][9]

Not long before Mirai Hatohara left[10], Masataka Ninomiya begged Izumi to teach him[11][12] despite being rivals[11], and Ninomiya already being the No. 1 Shooter.[12]

    Introduction Arc[edit source]

Ninomiya Squad presumably takes part in the extermination of all Rads in Mikado City.[13]

    Large-Scale Invasion Arc[edit source]

Due to Masafumi Shinoda preventing B-rank Squads with missing members from fighting against Aftokrator's forces out of fear of capture, Ninomiya Squad is not deployed.[14]

Ninomiya is seen at Chika's house following Rinji's disappearance in Osamu's flashback.[15]

    B-Rank Wars Arc[edit source]

    Round One[edit source]

Ninomiya Squad fights the first round of Rank Wars on February 1.[16]

    Round Two[edit source]

Since Azuma Squad, Katori Squad, Ōji Squad and Yuba Squad[17] compete in a four-way rank wars in the day division on February 5,[18] and Ninomiya Squad is known to have clashed with Ikoma Squad on that same day,[19] the battle presumably took place in the night division, with Kageura Squad as the third team.

    Round Three[edit source]

On Saturday[20] February 8,[21] Ninomiya Squad competes in the third round of rank wars.

    Round Four[edit source]

Ninomiya appears after Tamakoma Second's battle with Suzunari First and Nasu Squad discussing the battle with Izumi. He speaks harshly of Tamakoma Second, believing that Osamu and Chika are weaklings who only have strategy and luck. He later visits them, asking them for information about Rinji Amatori, as well as telling them the story of Hatohara.

Later, his team is up against Osamu's in a rank war. He attacks Kitazoe with a pyramid-shaped Asteroid. Ema attempts to snipe Ninomiya, but the latter easily blocks it. Ninomiya orders Inukai and Tsuji to go hunt down Tamakoma Second while he hunted down Kitazoe and Ema. He did so with relative ease, and then arrived at Yūma and Kageura's battle where he defeats Yūma and then hides from Kageura and Azuma. The three remain in a deadlock with nothing happening until a time out is called, with Ninomiya Squad having the victory at 3 points in total.

    Galopoula's Invasion[edit source]

Since Azuma Squad, Kageura Squad, and Yuba Squad fight in the night division of rank wars on February 19,[22] Ninomiya Squad must have competed in the day division against Ikoma Squad, Ōji Squad and Suzunari First. They continue to rank first at the end of the match.[23]

During the Galopoula Invasion, he assumes a leadership role and directs the defense of HQ.

    Round Six[edit source]

Ninomiya Squad fights against Kageura Squad, Azuma Squad and Suzunari First in the night division of the sixth round of rank wars. Kageura Squad and Ninomiya Squad tie at the top with three points. No Squad receives the survival bonus due to there being multiple survivors.[24] Following the match, Kageura Squad remains in first place with a point total of 37.[25]

    Round Seven[edit source]

Since Tamakoma Second faces off against Kageura Squad, Azuma Squad and Suzunari First in the day division of rank wars on March 1,[26] it can be inferred that Ninomiya Squad competes against Ikoma Squad and Ōji Squad in the night division.[27]

    14. Daisuke Ashihara: Q: Why couldn't upper B-ranks like Ninomiya Squad or Kageura Squad participate in the Second Large-Scale Invasion? Did they travel far away on their time off?
A: It seems I lost the chance to draw it in the story itself so I'll write it here: "HQ Chief Shinoda gave the order that B-rank and lower agents are not allowed to participate in the fight until all members of the team are present". It seems he was worried about agents acting on their own and getting captured by Rabbits. Of course, there are also teams like Kako Squad who was late to the fight because their captain went out on a drive on her time off.
