A Rad (ラッド, Raddo ?) is a small Trion Soldier specializing in reconnaissance and spying.[1][2]

It has 6 legs that look similar to a crab, with a forked tail. When modified with a gate generator, an "eye" will on top of its back in addition to the eye it has in front. It is the size of a roomba.[1][2]
Abilites[edit | edit source]
Rads are normally used for reconnaissance[1], and has no way to attack.[1]
The only type of rad shown so far are modified ones that have the ability to generate gates.[3][1] The gate generation ability bypass Border's gate-outbreak devices.[4] They usually hide themselves inside another Soldier[3], and after it is destroyed, the Rad conceals itself underground.[5] It moves to places with lots of people in the vicinity and then gathers Trion little-by-little from the people who walk close to it.[5][1] Eventually enough Trion is gathered to make a gate.[5] They can be found in large numbers nearing the thousands.[6]
Plot[edit | edit source]
Introduction Arc[edit | edit source]
Aftokrator[7] hide thousands of Rads inside a Bamster[8] each of which was modified with a gate generator.[3][1] this caused a total of 8 abnormal gates. 6 of them are unknown, but were stated to have happened by Kitora[4], the Marmod invasion at Third Mikado City Middle School[4], and the Ilgar Bombing.[9]
Later, Yūma along with Replica after doing research[10] they figured it out[11], at the same time Osamu, and Jin met up with them.[12] Yūma explains the Rad situation[8], and then Jin then uses his connections to various heads of Border to call all Squads, have all the Rads show up on the Radar, and have an emergency broadcast about them.[13] After mobilizing all squads regardless of rank, and the entire day[14] all the rads were exterminated.[15]
Yūma would then give the credit to Osamu[16] which promoted him to B-Rank.[16][17]
Large-Scale Invasion Arc[edit | edit source]
It was shown that thanks to the Rads, Aftokrator had information on how big Border's forces is[7], and how C-Rank Trainees don't have Bail Out.[18] additionally Sets of Rads were used to open multiple gates during the Second Large-Scale Invasion.[19]
