Introduction Arc[edit source]
Yōsuke Yoneya first appears alongside Shūji Miwa investigating a trion soldier that had appeared in the Forbidden Zone. He remarks that whoever killed the trion soldier had to have been from A-rank.[1]
Yoneya appears again, helping Miwa stakeout Osamu’s home. Yoneya notes how pumped he is at the idea of fighting a humanoid neighbor, to which Miwa scolds him. Yūichi Jin appears at that moment with orders from headquarters about an important mission.[2]
Yoneya and Miwa don't allow this to distract them from their watching, as they later catch replica measuring Chika's level of trion and report that they had found the humanoid neighbor.[3] He first mistakes Chika as the neighbor, but Yūma Kuga steps in before they can attack.
When Yūma defends against several shots at point-blank range, Yoneya expresses his surprise and awe. Yoneya expresses a desire to go head-to-head one on one, to which Miwa refuses outright. Yoneya launches a surprise attack on Yūma, but Yūma dodges most of it. He then asks if he should start with aiming for the feet.[4]
Yoneya and Miwa force Yūma into the air, where Narasaka shoots off Yūma’s arm. He then tries to goad Yūma into counterattacking. The two continue to fill up Yūma’s time, until Miwa fires several Lead Bullets, which weigh Yūma. Yoneya uses this chance to charge in for an attack, only to be caught when Yūma copies Miwa’s attack.[5]
Kodera ribs him over being flashily defeated, and Yoneya listens to Jin’s explanation of Yūma having a black trigger. Yoneya then deactivates his trigger, complaining about how badly he lost, and accepting whatever punishment Yūma might have. He easily answers all of Yūma’s questions, and leaves happily asking only that Yūma not go easy on him next time.[6]
Black Trigger Retrieval Arc[edit source]
Yoneya is one of the observers keeping watch on Tamakoma when the top three A-rank teams returned from the neighborhood.[7] Yoneya joins the battle against Arashiyama and is ordered to dispose of Ken Satori. However, Kitora follows after him, making him break a window.[8]
The two battle it out in the abandoned apartment, Yoneya doing most of the attacking, with Kitora dodging most of his attacks. He fails to notice Kitora setting up trap wires, and she stabs in the chest once his movement has been adequately limited. He then drags her out of the room with his remaining strength, yelling for Kōhei Izumi to take her out. However, his last-ditch attempt fails as Mitsuru Tokieda blocks the bullets at the last moment. He bailed out after that.[9]
Border Enlistment Arc[edit source]
Yoneya appears with Yōtarō Rindō and Raijinmaru, to say hello to Yūma. He answers Yūma’s question about Miwa’s bad health, and after Miwa leaves, challenges Yūma to a fight. However, they run into Osamu being ferociously beaten down by Shun Midorikawa. When Yūma challenges Midorikawa to a fight, Yoneya wonders what happened to his fight.[10]
At the start of the Yūma vs. Midorikawa fight, Yōtarō asks if Midorikawa or Yoneya was stronger. As he watches the fight, he comments on how much more experienced Yūma is than Midorikawa. The moment Yūma steps out of the fighting booth, Yoneya challenges him to a fight once again, but is interrupted by Jin. In the end, he never receives the opportunity to fight with Yūma.[11]
Large-Scale Invasion Arc[edit source]
Yoneya appears with Midorikawa and Izumi to help the gathered B-rank teams against Ranbanein.[12] He teases Izumi about Ranbanein being in the same bullet idiot community. Izumi calls them fodder in reply as he gathers info from Azuma. Yoneya suggests that they study a map, and make a plan.
As Izumi and Midorikawa provide cover, Yoneya attacks Ranbanein from the back. Ranbanein manages to dodge the worst of the attack, but Yoneya keeps attacking in an attempt create an opening for Midorikawa to attack. The back attack fails. Yoneya dodges into cover as Ranbanein rains fire from above.[13]
Under Azuma's command, Yoneya stands at a broken window, waiting for Ranbanein to target Tatsuya Kuruma. He leaps out of the window, but Ranbanein abruptly hurtles towards him, firing. Kuruma, Midorikawa, Kotarō Tomoe and Tsuneyuki Okudera create a shield around him, protecting him from Ranbanein’s attack. Yoneya scores a direct hit by stabbing him through the chest.[14]
Yoneya apologizes for being unable to go solo as Mira attempts to backstab him through several small portals. He dodges the attack, and Ranbanein admits his complete and utter defeat and hopes to battle again before retreating. Yoneya then compliments Kuruma on pretending to be bait. He follows Izumi into supporting C-rank trainees. Azuma promises to treat him and the other two A-rankers to a meal.[15]
Yoneya and Midorikawa attack the two Rabbits chasing C-rank trainees. Osamu happily greets them, and Yoneya happily declares how lucky Yūma was for getting to fight a black trigger. They join the fight, but are unable to hold back all of the Rabbits.[16]
He sees Osamu borrow Chika’s power to destroy one of the rabbits. When Hyrein attacks with his black trigger Alektor, Yoneya is able to block the ‘birds’. However, his weapon is turned into trion cubes. He barely manages to avoid a rabbits follow-up attack, but is injured.[16]
When Osamu flees, Yoneya warns him that freed-up rabbits are going to attack. He continues to attack the rabbits, and notes Izumi’s attack plan.[17] One of the rabbits he is facing abruptly disappears when Mira moved it to face the snipers.[18]
When Karasuma comes to him, Yoneya asks if Karasuma is using a cheat. Karasuma asks him to retrieve those agents that were cubified on the street and protect the fleeing C-rankers. As Karasuma attacks, Yoneya provides backup and a distraction by tossing rubble at Hyrein. Hyrein, however, decides not to stall them any longer and retreates. Not before attacking Karasuma one last time from the back as Yoneya looks on, noting the tactic.[19]
He catches up to the C-rankers and gathers all of the snipers on the top of a nearby building and orders them to fire at Hyrein on his way to attack Osamu carrying Chika’s cube. As Aftokrator is forced to retreat, he remarks on the skies clearing.[20]
He retrieves the heavily injured Osamu and gets him into the base.[21] He visits Osamu while he was in the hospital and receives an Outstanding Service Award.[22]
B-Rank Wars Arc[edit source]
Round 2[edit source]
He is shown watching the battle between Tamakoma-2, Suwa Squad and Arafune Squad.[23]
Galopoula's Invasion[edit source]
Yoneya and Miwa fight against Koskero. Although his spear is rendered useless by his trigger, they assist Jin in being able to send Fūjin slashes to defeat the Neighbor. In the aftermath of the battle, Yoneya is seen playing with Sumiharu Inukai (with Shinnosuke Tsuji joining in later) with parts of Nikokyra that Koskero left behind on his feet.
Round 8[edit source]
Yoneya is seen in the audience with Miwa and Kodera.[24]
