Minamisawa is considered one of the most promising 16-year-old agents.[1] As befits a member of a squad with a stable standing in the top tier of B-rank[2], he is capable Attacker whose solo points temporarily exceeded 8,000 (master class).[1] He might have had the upper hand on Yutaka Kashio, the Attacker from another top-tier B-rank Squad, when they clashed in round six,[3][4] although the latter might have intentionally given ground to continue looking for Osamu Mikumo.[3] However, he was defeated as soon as Kazuki Kurauchi joined the fight.[5] He has good reactions[6][7][8] and appears to be capable of switching Trigger rather quickly.[6]
Minamisawa's main weakness is his recklessness and his penchant for getting carried away, which cause him to rush into battle headfirst and often ignore his teammates' advice,[9][10][1] even during the planning stage.[11] It is only after he finds himself in a pinch that he becomes more prone to disengaging[6][12] and thinking tactically.[13] His willingness to rely on deceit at this stage[14] demonstrates that he is capable of recognizing when the odds are overwhelmingly against him.
Apart from the skills that qualify him as a capable Border agent, Minamisawa is known to excel at karaoke.[1]

Classification Attacker |
Minamisawa is a proficient swordsman whose points temporarily exceeded 8,000 (master class).[1] He appeared to have the upper hand on Kashio when they clashed in Round Six[3][4] although his opponent might have been giving him ground willingly.[3] Minamisawa is skilled enough to favor wielding Kogetsu with only his right hand[15][16][4][17] in spite of its weight[18], although he switches to two when parrying[19][8] or attempting to land a critical strike.[6][20][21] He is first seen using Kogetsu in Chapter 150 (Episode 82 in the Anime). |
Type Normal | Grasshopper | |

Classification Optional |
Minamisawa uses it to control his position in a fight, such as to escape from powerful enemies and reunite with his teammates.[6] He has shown enough skill with this Trigger to summon two pads consecutively, activating the second before the acceleration from the first decreased enough for his trajectory to turn into a parable[6], signifying a change of direction at high speed. Minamisawa is first seen using Grasshopper in Chapter 187 (Episode 83 in the Anime). |
Type Normal | Bagworm | |
---|---|---|
Classification Optional |
Minamisawa activates bagworm when his surrounding opponents have also disappeared off-Radar, decreasing his chances of being caught in an ambush.[22] He deactivates it before starting combat[23] due to it getting in the way when attacking and defending.[24] Minamisawa is first seen using Bagworm in Chapter 152 (Episode 83 in the Anime). |
Type Normal | Shield | |

Classification Defense |
Minamisawa uses Shield extensively as part of his combat style, as it allows him to defend himself while keeping his hands free. He can cast it in many different shapes and sizes, appearing to favor the standard hexagonal shape against linear attacks[6][25][8][17], a round one to protect himself from Hound[3][19], and a spherical one to ward off explosions.[26] After closing in on a user of Gunner Triggers behind a Shield, he can shrink it right before his own attack so that it will not hinder him.[21] His Full Guard is sturdy enough to allow him to emerge unscathed from Kurauchi's Salamander bombardment[5] as well as to survive Takuma Yuba's unexpected fire, countering which testifies to Minamisawa's ability to switch to a defensive stance remarkably swiftly.[6] Perhaps partly because of this, he shows a preference for entering Full Guard rather than casting a single, wide Shield.[25][17] Despite his undeniable skill, sudden, multi-directional attacks can bypass his guard.[19][27] Minamisawa is first seen using Shield in Chapter 153 (Episode 83 in the Anime). |
