Background[edit | edit source]
Taketomi joined Border approximately two years before Yūma Kuga and Chika Amatori.[1] Even as a C-rank, Taketomi made presentations to Engineers and management to convince them to implement commentary during team rank wars, leading to the current system. Her efforts resulted in the average tactical level of Border being increased.[2] She did not make B-rank until eight months before Tamakoma Second's match against Arafune Squad and Suwa Squad at the earliest.[3]
B-Rank Wars Arc[edit | edit source]
Taketomi serves as the host for Tamakoma Second's first rank war, commenting with Ken Satori and Osamu Mikumo. She is astonished by Yūma's skills and even more by Chika's tremendously powerful Ibis.[4]
Round Two[edit | edit source]
Taketomi returns to do the play-by-play for Tamakoma Second's following match alongside Haruaki Azuma and Shun Midorikawa. She is perplexed by Tamakoma Second's stage of choice, which favors Snipers, until Azuma explains that Osamu wanted to create a natural alliance with Suwa Squad against Arafune Squad.[5] During the rest of the match she provides recaps and focuses on the highlights while leaving the more tactical commentary to Azuma and Midorikawa.[5][6][7][8]
Round Five (Night)[edit | edit source]
During the day division Ebina Squad climbs to the middle group of B-rank for the first time. That night Taketomi comments on Tamakoma Second'sfifth match,[9] maintaining her usual style.[10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17] Before it begins, she shares with her co-commentators Kōhei Izumi and Mitsuru Tokieda that she is excited because that morning her Squad moved to the middle tier of B-rank for the first time. The three then discuss the recent defeats of the three Squads.[9] After the round end she invites Izumi and Tokieda to discuss the new key to Tamakoma's success, which they identify as Osamu's wire strategy, before moving on to the other Squads.[18]
Round Eight[edit | edit source]
On the night of March 5,[19] Taketomi hosts Tamakoma Second's match against Ninomiya Squad, Ikoma Squad and Yuba Squad. She starts off by introducing her fellow commentators: Kirie Konami, Kazuaki Ōji and Kazuki Kurauchi, then reviews the results of Ōji Squad's match earlier that day with them. The commentators share and discuss their predictions for the upcoming battle.[20] When the match starts, Taketomi commentates on the fighters' spawn positions and on Masataka Ninomiya's Salamander bombardment.[21] She then proceeds to describe their movements[22] and the collective attacks against Hyuse. She is deeply surprised by Chika's willingness to use Meteor, potentially taking down her own teammate, and her shock only escalates when Kazuto Tonooka snipes at the cube and nearly causes her to self-destruct.[23] Taketomi thus discusses Hyuse's encirclement and the possibility of escaping by exploiting the opponents' psychology with the commentators. Her interest is piqued by Konami mentioning Hyuse's secret weapon:[24] Viper, which he soon uses to defeat Tatsuhito Ikoma. After the two and Satoshi Mizukami Bail Out, the Operator goes over the point distribution for the audience,[25] and follows subsequent eliminations with the same interest.[26]
